History

Frédéric Mistral’s tomb in the Maillane cemetery was built during his lifetime in 1906–1907, modelled on the “Pavillon de la Reine Jeanne” in Les Baux-de-Provence.

The Maison du Lézard is a house built in the 17th century where Frédéric Mistral lived with his mother from 1855 to 1876. It has been classified as a historic monument since 31 July 1930. Today, it houses the municipal library and toy library, the tourist office and the Mistral research centre.

Maillane Connect is an interactive tour with nine stops covering the history, architecture and culture of the village. Workshops for adults and children are offered in the cultural space of the Musée Frédéric Mistral.

The Saint-Eloi celebration in Maillane includes the “carreto ramado” race on the penultimate weekend of July: a cart decorated with elm branches is pulled at a gallop by around 20 draught horses.
