Le Tholonet: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Sentier patrimonial du Tholonet is a 6.3 km circular route with a duration of approximately two hours and an elevation gain of 70 m. It passes through the village, through the hamlet of Palette and along a connecting path beside the Cause River. There is also an optional 0.600 km variant to the hamlet of Artauds, although it has no information board. Along the route, there are 20 information boards about the heritage of Le Tholonet.

Nature and trails

The “Le Tholonet – Entre oliviers et canal de Doudon” route is an easy circular hike following the traces of traditional agriculture in the landscape. It passes beneath the Doudon aqueduct and offers panoramic views of the Cézanne triangle.

The Zola Dam was built between 1847 and 1854 by François Zola, the father of the novelist Emile. Lac Zola is an artificial reservoir created after the construction of the Zola Dam and can be reached from Le Tholonet on foot or by hiking.

Culture and history

The Moulin Cezanne hosts exhibitions of paintings and sculptures. The Sainte-Croix church in Le Tholonet was rebuilt in 1780 in the neoclassical architectural style. The Château du Tholonet was built in 1776 by the Gallifet family.

Local life

The weekly Saturday market takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Place des Libérateurs in Palette. It offers fresh artisan-made pasta, seasonal fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, and loose organic dried fruit.
