La Barben: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The Château de La Barben is a former fortress built on a rocky outcrop in the 11th century and transformed into a pleasure palace in the 17th century. The protected site includes the formal garden, the entrance gates, four pools, two fountains, a statue, terraces, the access ramp with retaining wall, the two gateways, the avenue of plane trees and the bridge over the river. It was placed under protection by decree of 21 December 1984.

The small Romanesque Église Saint-Sauveur is located near the château. It dates back to the 11th century and has been dedicated to Saint Saviour since the 15th century. The church houses a fully restored Transfiguration by Mimault from 1632.

The Source d’Adane has been visited since ancient times. It once powered numerous mills and a laundry.

Paths and Nature

The Puits de Madame offers a 3-kilometre discovery trail as well as a 6-kilometre walking route. The Parc animalier de La Barben has 9 kilometres of paths among holm oaks.

Wildlife

The Parc animalier de La Barben covers a 33-hectare natural area classified as a Natura 2000 site and serving as an LPO refuge. There, visitors can discover more than 130 animal species and almost 700 animals from around the world.

Connections and Traditions

An on-demand bus operated by La Métropole Mobilité connects the bus station in Salon-de-Provence with Rocher Mistral and the Zoo de La Barben.

At the end of the year, a “Messe des bergers” is referred to in La Barben.
