Gréasque: Holiday Apartments and Houses

In Gréasque, the Musée de la Mine showcases important remains from its period of operation between 1919 and 1962. These include the headframe of the former shaft and the engine building, which are classified as historic industrial monuments. The museum also displays numerous vehicles and tools from the last mines, as well as a gallery reconstructed at ground level. Self-guided visits are possible without a reservation using a smartphone, audio guide or printed materials; they take approximately one hour to one hour and 15 minutes.

Culture

The Musée Granet is a museum in the vicinity of Gréasque. In the wider region are the historic site of Abbaye du Mont-Sion and the Forts Saint-Jean and Saint-Nicolas.

Nature

The Sentier de la Mine is a 13.6-kilometre route that takes four hours, has a moderate difficulty level and is marked in blue. It starts at the Musée de la Mine car park in Gréasque and passes through former mining facilities that are now covered by forest.

The Tête de l’Hoste summit and the Montagne du Baou Traouca mountain are located in the immediate vicinity of Gréasque. The le Ratier summit and the Luminier summit are located in the surrounding area of Gréasque.

Activities

The municipal forests of the Parcours du pôle historique minier are located on the remains of Europe’s oldest mining settlement and are suitable for walking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The Parcours VTT runs through a forest consisting mainly of pine and holm oak trees, includes variants ranging from 2.6 to 9 kilometres and is accessible on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. It is permanently open to the public, except when restrictions are imposed due to the risk of forest fires.

The Parcours VTT includes the Tombereau site, with a retention basin on the stream and a picnic area. The Ronde des mineurs running race is held annually on the Parcours VTT.

History

The former station on the Gardanne–Aubagne line served rail traffic carrying coal and passengers to Aubagne, Marseille, Gardanne and Aix.
