Nature
The Calanque de Port-Miou is the only calanque in the municipality of Cassis. Formerly a quarry, it has been converted into a marina. From the centre of Cassis, it can be reached comfortably on foot in about 30 minutes.
Those who choose Cassis as their holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment for their stay.
A footpath leads from Port-Miou to the Calanque de Port-Pin. The route takes about 60 minutes along a rocky but easy path. The Calanque de Port-Pin has a gently sloping beach that is used for swimming.
Culture
Since 17 September 2003, the Musée Municipal Méditerranéen de Cassis has been designated a Musée de France. It was founded in 1910; Marius Guindon and his wife Eugénie Guindon donated a collection of 47 paintings by Provençal masters for this purpose.
The museum also displays archaeological objects discovered during excavations in Cassis. These include pottery, amphorae, tegulae—that is, roof tiles—as well as jewellery and coins.
Gastronomy
The Cassis vineyard extends exclusively across the territory of the municipality of Cassis. In 1936, the vineyard was awarded the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC).
Townscape
The local tradition of the Pointus continues in the port of Cassis. These are small, painted wooden fishing boats.
The centre of Cassis can be explored on foot and connects the port, shopping streets, squares, terraces and viewpoints over the bay.
