Culture and history
The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Caderot is protected as a historic monument; it was listed by decree on 16 December 1974. Its main construction phases range from the early Middle Ages through the 13th century to the 17th century. The chapel also contains a polychrome wooden altarpiece dating from 1507.
The Église Saint-Césaire has a Romanesque nave, two bays, a square dome with rounded corners and an apse made of Calissanne stone. The Mur des remparts, a section of a double line of fortifications, has also been preserved. A castrum serving as a fortress was built there in the 11th century.
The Plage de Champigny is located near the remains of an ancient Roman port. Sailing and rowing are practised at the Plage de Champigny.
Paths and waterfronts
The “À fleur d’Étang” route starts at Berre-l’Étang town hall and is classified as easy. It is suitable for families and accessible to children. The route features ten points of interest and an orientation board.
The Balade du port vers le grand tertre covers two kilometres of paths along the shore of the Étang de Berre, including cycle paths. The “Randonnée des Amis” passes through the Petite Camargue berroise, along the Étang and along the banks of the Arc through an agricultural plain.
The Plage du Passet can be reached on foot, by car or by bus. Stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and Longe-Côte are possible there.
The Port Albert-Samson is open to the public.
Parks and nature
In the town centre of Berre-l’Étang, Parc Maurin covers 2.6 hectares of landscaped recreational space. It has an equipped children’s playground and a botanical garden with Provençal plant species.
The Salins de Berre are protected as a Natura 2000 site and are home to numerous birds typical of the Mediterranean coast.
The Plage de Bouquet is an undeveloped beach where swimming is possible but unsupervised. It lies between the Salins du Midi and the mouth of the Arc. Little egrets and shelducks can occasionally be spotted there.
