Aurons: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A fortified castle once stood on the Castellas rock. It has since disappeared and was probably built around the 10th century. The ruins of the Château du Castellas crown a hill and offer panoramic views over the entire village.

History

The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens stands on the Place Louis Estienne in the heart of the village. Its entrance features a neoclassical tympanum; the polychrome inscription “Haec est Domus Domini” can also be found there.

The communal bread oven in Aurons can be visited around the clock, 24 hours a day. It dates back to the 17th century and is an authentic testament to the village’s past and former everyday life. From a rocky outcrop, the Vierge d'Aurons watches over the village of Aurons.

The Lavoir d'Aurons is a covered, fully restored washhouse with a small adjoining fountain. The history of Aurons is inscribed on its walls.

The Chapelle Saint-Martin du Sonnailler is a single-nave Romanesque chapel dating from the 12th century. In the early 2000s, it was fully restored by volunteers from the Fraternités Franciscaines.

Nature and Walking Trails

The walking trail to the Plaine de Sonnailler begins at the small car park by the town hall in Aurons. The route follows a path lined with pine trees, Argélas, rosemary, rockroses, juniper bushes and oaks, and runs along the GR6 long-distance footpath.
