Aureille: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Nature

Aureille is one of the sixteen municipalities that have joined the charter of the Alpilles Regional Nature Park. Several routes connect the landscape with the village: La Ronde des Oratoires is an 8.5-kilometre family hiking trail that leads visitors to explore and discover the village of Aureille and its surroundings. The long-distance hiking trail GR® 69 – La Routo crosses Aureille from east to west.

The hiking route A Festival of Mediterranean Birds around the Opies is 13.2 kilometres long and takes about four hours. It begins at the cemetery car park in Aureille and ends in Aureille. The Mouriès–Aureille hike runs along the southern slope of the Alpilles through a landscape shaped by human activity, with olive groves, vineyards and fruit orchards.

Culture

The parish church of Notre-Dame in Aureille was built in the neo-Romanesque style and dates from the second half of the 19th century. The Tour de l’Horloge was also built in the neo-Romanesque style; it was erected on the site of the bell tower of the first village church, which was called Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption and was formerly known as the Sainte-Marie parish church.

Le Castelas is a ruined fortress castle perched on a rocky outcrop above the village and built largely in the 12th century. The Oratoire Saint-Véran was listed as a historic monument by decree of 22 July 1935. The former oil mill of Aureille dates from the 17th century and retains its stone millstone and stone mill tower.

The Fontaine pointue in Aureille dates from 1882. The oratories mark the outskirts of the village; they include St-Anne, St-Joseph, St-Roch, St-Véran and St-Eloi. The public washhouse of Aureille consists of two basins where the washerwomen worked kneeling.

Cycling

The mountain bike route Les Civadières by Mountain Bike is an easy 15.5-kilometre circular route with a duration of around two hours. It starts and ends at the car park by Aureille stadium.

Local life

The Fromagerie EARL SEV Gillet in Aureille produces a wide selection of full-fat raw-milk goat cheeses, including Faisselles and Brousse. The cheese and dairy products are sold by the Fromagerie at the Thursday market in Aureille. The organisers frequently hold Camargue races in Aureille's municipal arenas.
