Villefranche-sur-Mer combines a historic harbour landscape with buildings, collections, coastal paths and gardens. The Citadelle Saint-Elme was built in 1557 as a star-shaped, bastioned military structure to defend the Rade de Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Culture and History
The Port Royal de la Darse was established in the mid-16th century together with the Citadelle and has been protected as a historic monument since 1991. The harbour contains a dry dock dating from 1730, which is one of the rare structures of its kind on the Mediterranean coast.
In 1981, the Citadelle Saint-Elme was converted into a cultural venue. Today, it houses an auditorium, gardens, an open-air theatre and the Citadelle Museum. The museum's exhibition rooms are currently closed for renovation work; the collections are being restored.
The Chapelle Saint-Pierre was designed inside and out by Jean Cocteau. It features depictions from the life of Saint Peter, chandeliers depicting the Apocalypse and local scenes. The chapel has been protected as a historic monument since 1996.
The Église Saint-Michel was built in 1757 in a simple Baroque style. Its organ, made by the Grinda brothers in 1790, is one of the oldest organs in the Alpes-Maritimes département and is protected as a historic monument. The Rue Obscure offers another insight into the historic structure of the town: the 130-metre-long passage runs along the first town wall and was gradually roofed over between the 16th and 18th centuries. It can be visited independently at any time.
Coast and Paths
The coastal path at Cap de Nice begins at Port Lympia and leads to Port de la Darse in Villefranche-sur-Mer. It is 6 kilometres long and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes in one direction. The path offers views of the Rade de Villefranche and the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula.
Gardens and Water
The Jardins en terrasses du port de la Darse extend across three levels. Each platform offers a visual and olfactory experience.
Along the coast between Plage des Marinières and Plage de la Darse in the Rade de Villefranche-sur-Mer, sunbathing and breaks by the water are possible year-round.
Collections
The Fondation Musée Volti in the Citadelle comprises more than 180 works by the sculptor Volti. Also located in the Citadelle is the Boumeester-Goetz Collection, with around 60 works by Christine Boumeester and Henri Goetz, as well as around 50 works from their personal collection.
