Spéracèdes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Landscape

Spéracèdes is located in a protected natural landscape that is typical of the Pre-Alps.

History

Roman and local pottery fragments, a fibula and a coin of the Emperor Tiberius, who died in AD 37, were found in the Grotte Ardisson.

The Moulin à huile Baussy oil mill was operated by the Doussan family until 1956. The Église Saint-Casimir was originally built as a chapel in 1762 and was extended in 1849. The bell tower of the Église Saint-Casimir was added in 1860, when the chapel became a church.

The Canal Belletrud was built after the municipality was founded in 1911; before that, the water supply for Spéracèdes had been a constant problem.

Culture

Moulin Baussy is an oil mill as well as a producer and seller of regional products. During the production season from November to March, the Moulin à huile Baussy opens its doors to visitors.

During the Saint Croix patronal festival, a historical tour of the village of Spéracèdes is organised. The « Heures musicales » festival takes place every year in June, and the Fête de la Croix every year in July.

The Spéracèdes festival committee organises the Fête de la Nature every year. At the Fête de la Nature, a large aioli prepared by Charles Baussy is served at lunchtime. The Fête de la Nature also brings together artisans and producers from the region around a common theme.

Geographical location

Spéracèdes can be reached via a small winding road that climbs up the hill or descends from the village of Cabris.
