Pierrefeu: Holiday apartments and houses

History

Roman remains found in Pierrefeu attest to settlement in ancient times; Pierrefeu is mentioned as early as the 11th century. Vieux Pierrefeu is home to the former parish church of Saint-Sébastien and Saint-Martin, which was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 24 September 1968. The church of Saint-Sébastien-Saint-Martin in Pierrefeu houses the painting “Vierge à l’Enfant avec saint Sébastien, saint Jean Baptiste et saint Martin”, signed and dated 1661 by Jean André.

The history of La Caïnée also dates back to an earlier era: the hamlet was inhabited until the end of the 18th century and is now abandoned. The Chapel of the Annunciation lies east of the hamlet of Les Crottes, at the foot of a rock near map point 304 on the boundary between Pierrefeu and Ascros. From there, a short path of a few dozen metres leads to it.

Activities

The Riou de Pierrefeu canyoning route begins in Pierrefeu on the RD 217 at an altitude of 544 m. The descent into the Riou de Pierrefeu begins with a 25 m abseil and is followed by a long stretch of river trekking.

Numerous hiking trails start from Pierrefeu, including circular routes lasting several hours and walks without any particular difficulty.

Events

The Course de carrioles race takes place every year in July in Pierrefeu. During the Course de carrioles, soapbox carts built entirely by the drivers are used on a 1.2 km downhill course through the old village of Pierrefeu, which is closed to traffic. Members of Pierrefeu’s sports association prepare pan bagnat for participants and spectators.
