Culture and History
Nice’s heritage as a winter resort is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as “Nice, Winter Resort Town of the Riviera”. This UNESCO World Heritage Site as a winter resort on the Riviera reflects British, Italian, French, Russian and other cultural influences in its architecture.
The Musée national Marc Chagall houses more than 800 paintings, gouaches, drawings, lavis and pastels. Its auditorium regularly hosts concerts of modern and contemporary music, conferences and dance performances, and is home to chamber music seasons presented by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice.
Vieux-Nice is home to an extensive, cohesive Baroque heritage comprising religious and civic buildings.
Coast and Green Spaces
Visitors and locals walk, run and cycle along the Mediterranean on the Promenade des Anglais. The promenade stretches for almost 7 kilometres along the coast of Nice at the Baie des Anges. It was created in 1824 as a seafront promenade, initiated by the British clergyman Lewis Way.
The Parc de la Colline du Château has been a public place for strolling since the city took over its design in 1882. From there, visitors can enjoy a remarkable view of the Baie des Anges, the old town and the port.

Squares and Markets
In the heart of Vieux-Nice, the Cours Saleya is known for its flower market. On Mondays, it hosts an antiques and flea market; in summer, there is also a night market for art and crafts. The market stalls offer local handicrafts and numerous regional culinary specialities.
The Place Masséna is characterised by red façades with arcades inspired by Piemontese architecture, extensive black-and-white paving and the Fontaine du Soleil. Today, it is a large pedestrian area where numerous events take place throughout the year.
