Culture and History
The parish church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur is a Romanesque-Gothic building, listed as a historic monument, whose construction spanned the 12th to the 15th century. The former keep of the 10th-century castle has been preserved on the Place de la Tour. In the Saint-Christophe district, traces of a castle and the ruins of a church have been preserved; these remains are located 1 kilometre northwest of the bastide of the same name.
The Musée Lou Casau displays antique objects, traditional costumes, photographs and Provençal santons. La Papeterie on the Loup comprises a former paper mill and a mill first mentioned in 1570. The Caves du Château cultural centre hosts concerts, exhibitions and gatherings throughout the year.
Sightseeing and Nature
The Bureau d’Information Touristique du Bar-sur-Loup offers free guided tours of the village’s heritage throughout the year, subject to prior reservation. The Église Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur can be visited by collecting the key from the tourist office in the Chapelle des Sœurs Trinitaires from June to September, and from the town hall reception desk during the rest of the year.
The GR51 above Le Bar-sur-Loup offers several hikes, including the Canal du Loup circular trail and the Chemin du Paradis. La Papeterie is situated in a natural area where flora and fauna thrive in peaceful surroundings, and the path leads to the Loup.
