La Turbie: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In La Turbie, the Trophée d’Auguste commemorates its construction in 6 BC in honour of Octave, Caesar’s nephew and later Emperor Augustus, following the subjugation of the Alpine peoples. The visitor area includes the monument, an interactive museum, a panoramic terrace and an extensive landscaped park. The Trophée d’Auguste is also the first stage of the cross-border tourist route Via Julia Augusta, which connects nine historic sites in Italy and France from Ventimiglia to La Turbie.

Culture

The Église Saint-Michel is an 18th-century church and has been classified as a Monument Historique since 1938. It is part of the tourist Route du Baroque Nisso-Ligure, established by the Alpes-Maritimes département. Its interior contains numerous paintings, including some from the 15th century, a high altar inlaid with marble, and a communion table made of agate and onyx.

The medieval village of La Turbie includes Roman remains and fountains. The Médiathèque intercommunale du Four Banal André Franco is housed in the former communal bakehouse of the old village and offers exhibitions, conferences and children’s workshops.

Nature

La Turbie shares the 660-hectare Parc de la Grande Corniche with Èze, La Trinité and Villefranche-sur-Mer. The Parc de la Grande Corniche is open to walkers and preserves traces of Celtic-Ligurian and Roman presence. The park is home to 450 plant species, including protected species; birds of prey, wild boar, rabbits and badgers can also be encountered there.

Hiking

The Via Alpina crosses the village of La Turbie; the hike takes 1 hour and 30 minutes there and back. The Tour de la Tête de Chien is a 4.9-kilometre hiking route with a walking time of 2 hours there and back. It begins in a pine grove and follows wooden signposts.
