Culture and history

The Chapelle Saint-Lazare is a medieval heritage building dating from the 12th century. It was built at the beginning of what is now the GR52, which connected La Turbie with Gorbio, Sainte-Agnès and Sospel. A procession to the chapel is organised every year in July.

The Eglise Saint Barthélemy was built in 1683. Its interior architecture and decoration are examples of rural Ligurian Baroque from the 17th century. It contains polychrome wooden sculptures and paintings from the 17th century attributed to Vento, Puppo and Ferrari.

The Château-Musée Lascaris is a building dating from the 12th century and the oldest building in the local heritage. From July to November, it presents a permanent exhibition of paintings and works of art from the Raza-Mongillat collection, as well as temporary exhibitions.

Museums and crafts

The Musée « D’A Font » conveys the former village life of Gorbio through cultural and religious customs and traditions, tools, agricultural equipment, household utensils, clothing and everyday objects. It also documents Gorbarin music, Gorbarin songs and the dialect, as well as a collection of postcards from Gorbio.

The hatmaker Clément Crochez makes bespoke, unique and fully customisable hats by hand in his workshop in Gorbio, using traditional craft techniques. Visitors can try them on there.

Routes

Gorbio can be reached from Roquebrune via the D.50 and from Menton via the D.23. Both roads are very winding and narrow in sections. There is free parking above the village.

Local features

Au Moulin de Gorbio produces extra virgin olive oil, salted olives, olive paste and the lemon-flavoured olive oil Citrolive.

The Orme de Gorbio has been included among France’s 100 remarkable trees by A.R.B.R.E.S.
