The Jardin Exotique d’Èze is laid out among the ruins of a medieval fortress and is home to hundreds of succulent and Mediterranean plants. Those who choose Èze as their destination want to rent a holiday apartment for their stay.

Culture

The Église Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption in Èze is classified as a Monument historique; its main construction phases took place in 1764 and 1771. The Château d’Èze was built by the d’Eze family in the second half of the 12th century. The fortified double gate La Poterne was part of Èze’s defensive installations, which were improved under the Counts of Savoy.

The Fort de la Revère was built between 1882 and 1885 at an altitude of 696 metres as part of Nice’s defence system. The Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs, also known as the Chapelle de la Sainte Croix, is the oldest building in the municipality of Èze and dates from 1306.

The White Penitents of Èze gathered in the Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs while helping people suffering from the plague. In this chapel, the inhabitants of Èze unanimously voted in 1860 in favour of annexing their village to France.

At the Fragonard site in Eze-Village, a visit combines a tour of the perfumery with a visit to the cosmetics laboratory. Fragonard offers a free guided factory tour with an olfactory game at the end of the tour.

The lanes of the village of Èze are home to craft shops and art galleries.

Nature and trails

The 712-hectare Parc de la Grande Corniche extends across the areas of La Trinité, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Èze and La Turbie. The Parc de la Grande Corniche is a Natura 2000 site with limestone plateaus, rocky cliffs and karst landscapes.

Within the municipality of Èze, an ornithological observation post is located between the Fort de la Revère and the Maison de la Nature. The Maison de la nature offers exhibitions and information about Mediterranean fauna, flora, biodiversity, ecology and karst relief.

The Fort de la Revère in the Parc départemental de la Grande Corniche offers a panorama of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding landscape. The Circuit du mont Bastide follows historic paths through landscapes with diverse Mediterranean flora. The summit plateau of Mont Bastide offers a wide panorama and the remains of a settlement dating back to the Neolithic period.

Three developed circular trails around the Fort de la Revère focus on botanical, historical and geological features. The Sentiers découverte of the Parc de la Grande Corniche comprise three thematic trails covering botanical, historical and geological features.

The Sentier Nietzsche is 2.1 kilometres long, takes about one hour and has an elevation difference of 400 metres. It begins approximately 200 metres east of Èze Bord de Mer railway station on the Basse Corniche.

Two paths connect the medieval village of Èze with the Fort de la Revère; the round trip is said to take approximately three hours.

Coast

The coastal area of Èze includes a marine Natura 2000 site with moray eels, octopuses and sphinx blennies. The Plage de la baie d’Èze is a shady pebble beach on the Basse Corniche between Cap Roux and Cap Estel.

The Club nautique d’Èze offers kayak and stand-up paddleboard rental at the Plage de la baie d’Èze. Around thirty historically distinctive Mediterranean cabanons stand on the shore of Èze; they were originally boathouses used by fishermen and were later made habitable.

Walks in the Parc de la Grande Corniche offer, in clear conditions, views along the coast from San Remo to Saint-Tropez; under favourable conditions, Corsica may be visible on the horizon.
