Drap: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Drap combines medieval traces, chapels, water engineering and local traditions. The medieval Château de Drap was built on a rocky spur at the edge of the Plateau Tercier. The Château de Drap is private property. The ruins known as the Château de Drap appear instead to correspond to a reconstruction with a change of location dating from around the 13th century.
History and Culture
The Chapel of the White Penitents, also known as the Sainte-Croix Chapel, was founded on 2 February 1682. The chapel contains an oil painting depicting Christ at Emmaus, dated to around 1650. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church and the Sainte-Catherine Chapel are among Drap’s attractions.
On the Plateau Tercier lies the Castellaras de la Colle des Castello, an oval protohistoric settlement with three surrounding walls. The fortifications of the Plateau Tercier date from the mid-18th century and extend for almost 1 km. Friezes from the Belle Époque are still visible on some house façades in Drap; painted façades are part of Drap’s urban heritage.
Paths and Water Engineering
A peaceful, picturesque promenade runs along the Sainte-Thècle Canal. The long-distance hiking trail “Les Balcons de la Côte d’Azur” also crosses the Plateau Tercier. The Sainte-Thècle water system comprises a 17 km-long aqueduct, the main section of which was completed in Drap in March 1868.
Culture at the Centre Culturel des Gras
The Médiathèque Jean Négro at the Centre Culturel des Gras offers a variety of lending services, performances and workshops throughout the year. The Centre Culturel des Gras also offers classes in music, drawing, dance and theatre.
Traditions and Events
Drap has a Genoese-style olive oil mill dating from the 18th century. Drap’s still operates for about one week a year in November. The Rallye National de Drap takes place every year.
Anyone choosing Drap as a holiday destination will want to rent a holiday apartment there.
