Castillon lies entirely within the Natura 2000 area “Vallée du Carei – Collines de Castillon”. The municipality is completely characterised by mountainous terrain and reaches an altitude of 1,239 metres at the summit of Mont Ours. Castillon is also the source area of the small coastal river Carei.

History and Culture
The present-day Village de Castillon was rebuilt in the early 1950s with stone houses and green shutters. The Eglise Saint-Julien was built in 1952, the year the new village of Castillon was founded.
Fort Maginot de Castillon was built beneath the ruins of the village and was intended to repel possible Italian attacks. The Viaduc du Caramel is a 120-metre-long structure with 13 arches and a relic of the former tramway line that connected Menton with Sospel via Castillon.
The Arcades du Serre are home to workshops and galleries belonging to artists and craftspeople.
