History

Sixteen Roman inscriptions have been preserved in Briançonnet; they were reused in the walls of houses. The Chapelle Saint-Pierre preserves an approximately 4.50-metre-long section of the northern wall of the original church, together with its connection to the apse. It was built between 1500 and 1800 on the ruins of an earlier church that belonged to a fortified settlement.

The Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church, also known as Sainte-Marie, is first mentioned in 1137 and is considered the principal church of the Briançonnet area. It contains a reused stone bearing an inscription dedicated to Saloninus, the younger son of Emperor Gallienus, dating from between 258 and 260. The ruins of the feudal castle above the village offer a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding area.
