Culture and History
The Ecomusée du train des Merveilles is located in the former locomotive depot of Breil-sur-Roya railway station, which was built in 1927. The museum features exhibitions on hydropower and transport, as well as an HO-scale model railway reproducing characteristic sites along the route over the Col de Tende. The Ecomusée du train des Merveilles also offers a driving simulator.
The Église Santa-Maria-in-Albis was classified as a historic monument in 1978. It was completed around 1700 on the site of a medieval church that had been severely damaged in the first half of the 17th century.
On the eastern slope within the former fortification walls, terraced olive groves, the Chapelle Saint-Antoine, and the medieval Porte de Gènes can still be found. The remains of the castle and the Tour de la Cruella tower are located on the rocky ridge above Breil-sur-Roya. The surviving sections of the town wall run along the Roya and extend to the Porte de Gènes east of the village.
A Stacada is a folkloric event held every four years, featuring a historical reenactment of a popular uprising in costume; since 1960, it has been celebrated on the third Sunday in July.
