Berre-les-Alpes is a village situated at an altitude of around 700 metres, built on a rocky outcrop and offering 360-degree panoramic views. Numerous olive groves lie below the village, while chestnut forests stretch above it. Mimosas and pine trees also characterise the landscape. Around Place Bellevue, the village centre features a network of narrow lanes and vaulted passageways.

Culture and History
A fortified settlement called Berre is documented as early as 1108; the associated village church is mentioned in 1156. The Église Saint-Laurent was built around 1368 on the site of an earlier structure, while its current façade dates from 1864.
The Galeries du Presbytère feature a permanent exhibition of works by Patrick Poggioli, including metal sculptures and pieces assembled from old tools; they are currently closed due to construction work.
Hiking Trails
The municipal Le Cloutet hike is an easy two-and-a-half-hour tour starting at the village square. It passes an old stone house built on a rocky outcrop, ruins and an old basin, and runs through stands of chestnut, mimosa and pine trees.
The hike to the Source du Brusch leads to the former “Brusch de 1882” basin, the first drinking-water reservoir to supply the village. The La Pighiéra hike also begins at the village square, leads through an olive grove to several streams, follows the Pighiéra and heads south via the Baisse de la Croix through a chestnut grove.
Traditions
The Fête des châtaignes is a traditional festival in Berre-les-Alpes associated with regional products. It commemorates the fact that the cultivation and use of chestnuts, alongside mimosa, were the municipality’s most important resources.
