Culture
The Écomusée de l'Olivier uses interactive and audiovisual elements to explain the botany of the olive tree, the pruning of olive trees, the harvesting of the fruit and the production of olive oil. It is housed in former lime kilns on the former Route de Forcalquier in Volx and presents olive-growing culture throughout the Mediterranean region. Individual visitors can visit the Écomusée free of charge and without a guided tour. It is independently accessible to wheelchair users. For groups of 9 to 40 people, it offers commented, free olive oil tastings by reservation.
The parish church of Sainte-Victoire was built in 1648. The castle of Volx, dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, lies in ruins; some arches of its aqueduct have been preserved. From the Château de Volx, the panorama extends to Mont Ventoux, the Pre-Alps and Oisans. The Galerie de la basse fontaine is approximately 50 metres deep and can be viewed from the square named after it.
An information booklet for the “Eau et Garrigues” interpretation trail is available for download or at the town hall of Volx.
Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment for a visit to the Écomusée de l'Olivier and the paths around Volx should consider Volx as a travel destination.
Nature
Les Chemins de l'Olivier is a signposted walking trail through the olive groves of Volx, starting at the Piétramal nature centre. Aglandau is the olive variety most commonly grown in Volx.
The Tour de la Garde circular trail passes through the typical Luberon garrigue to the Volx climbing area. It reaches the summit of La Garde and offers views over the Durance Valley and the Pays de Lure.
Climbing
The Volx climbing area lies on the edge of a protected zone that preserves birds of prey, bats and rock plants. It is classified as a sport climbing area with a beginner sector. The final uphill stretch to the Volx climbing area is closed to cars; there is a car park before it.
