The Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine is located at the summit of the hilltop village of Valernes and overlooks the Durance Valley. After being destroyed during the Wars of Religion, it was rebuilt from 1599 onwards; some materials from the previous building were reused in the choir. Its bell tower is crowned by an octagonal pyramid with dormer windows in the style of medieval Alpine bell towers.

Valernes has a covered washhouse built onto the fountain. The Saint-Didier Chapel is maintained and renovated by its current owners.
Cycling
The Tour du Rocher de Hongrie à vélo cycling tour (No. 30) passes through Valernes and Vaumeilh. It is 17.3 km long and has a stated duration of two hours. The start and finish are at the Place du village in Valernes. On returning to Valernes, the tour runs along the Sasse and offers wide views of the surrounding countryside and terrain.
The Plateau de Saint-Didier à VTT mountain-bike circuit (No. 13) begins in Valernes on the side of the D951, 4 km after the bridge over the Durance. It is easy, largely flat and suitable for the whole family.
Nature and trails
From the hilltop village of Valernes, a walk leads to the Rocher de Hongrie.
