Culture and History

The present-day Church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens in Saumane has a pointed-vaulted ceiling and was built in the 17th century. Its nativity scene dates from the first half or the middle of the 19th century. The church also contains santons that are classified as historic monuments.

In the south of the municipality, near the hamlet of Bertranet, lies the Chapel of Saint Michel de Bertranet. It was built in 1720 in gratitude for Saumane having been spared a plague epidemic in the region. Every year, on the feast days of Saint Joan of Arc and Saint Michael, a pilgrimage leads to the chapel.

Getting Around

The Giono-Montagne de Lure route crosses the village of Saumane northwards via a combination of tracks and paths. From Saumane, it continues via Les Girons and the Ravin de la Chapellane to the Col Saint-Vincent.

A hiking route in the Montagne de Lure can begin in Saumane and lead to the Bergeries du Contras.

Local Life

A small market featuring local producers takes place in Saumane on Thursdays. It offers fresh produce, cheese, jams, and eggs.
