Culture and History
The Chapelle de Peipin is a Romanesque chapel dating from the 13th century. Since 2018, it has hosted, among other things, concerts, performances, dance, theatre, readings, exhibitions and conferences.
In the vicinity of Peipin lies the Citadelle de Sisteron, a fortress. The Cathédrale Notre-Dame-des-Pommiers de Sisteron, a church, is also located in this area. The Eglise Notre-Dame des Salles is a church in the immediate vicinity of Peipin. The Abbaye Notre-Dame de Lure, a historic site, is also located in the area.
The Pont sur le Jabron is a masonry bridge with a single, slightly depressed arch and two rows of voussoirs.
Nature and Landscape
Two Natura 2000 sites concern the Durance; a third, on the municipal boundary, concerns the Montagne de Lure. The banks of the Durance and the Jabron provide habitats for ecologically significant species and fulfil an important ecological function.
The Chapelle Saint Pons is a summit in the immediate vicinity of Peipin. The summits Montagne de la Baume and Montagne de Lure, as well as the mountain Rocher du Turc, are also found in the vicinity of Peipin.
The “La Route Napoléon à Cheval” route passes over the Pas de Peipin at an altitude of 1,030 metres. The riding route leads to Peipin and then climbs into the mountains via the GR653D (Chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle).
Hiking and Horse Riding
The hike “Des gorges de la Rayée au chemin des Côtes” begins at the Place du Bon Vent in Peipin. It leads to the charcoal burners’ sites of Lure and to former mountain pastures where chamois occasionally feed.
Local Products
At Ferme Les Tilleuls in Peipin, goat’s cheese, olive oil, jams, eggs, farm poultry – including ducks, geese, guinea fowl, capons and turkeys – as well as traditionally raised rabbits are sold on site.
