Culture and Landscape

Le Vieux Noyers is a medieval village on the ridge route that connects the villages of the Jabron Valley with Sisteron. Today, only the gateway remains of the former fortified castle.

The Notre-Dame-de-Bethléem church dates from the 13th century and has been classified as a historic monument since 1913. In Le Vieux Noyers, it was reopened for worship in 1986.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception was consecrated on 26 August 1860. It features Alpine architecture characteristic of the late 19th century and remarkable walnut furnishings. Its bell tower is topped by a rock crystal donated by the famous Nucetoise Eysseric family.

Construction of the Chapelle Saint-Claude was completed in June 1733. The chapel stands on a terrace on the Rancurel; from there, the panorama extends from the Lure ridges to the Monts d’Albion.

Local Life

The Eatinerances-Guinguette is open from Wednesday to Sunday in summer. Drinks are available from 5:30 p.m., with aperitifs and tapas from 6:30 p.m.

Hiking

The Le Vieux Noyers hike is considered a short route suitable for families with children and involves no particular difficulties. It is 2.5 kilometres long, takes about one hour and has 100 metres of ascent.

The hike to the Montagne de Pellegrine begins in Noyers-sur-Jabron and is described as a 21-kilometre circular route taking five and a half hours, with 700 metres of ascent. It offers views from the Pellegrine ridge and follows the section known as the Calade at the Pas des Portes.
