Culture and History

A prominent testimony to the past is the Dolmen du Villard d'Ubaye. The megalithic tomb has been classified as a Monument historique since 1900. The Parcours Sens'action – Le village disparu uses abandoned railway tunnels to convey the history of the vanished village of Ubaye.

The exhibition “Des montagnes et des hommes” explores the uses, as well as the knowledge and skills, that people have developed by extracting various elements from their environment. The exhibition also includes a gallery where nocturnal fauna can be observed.

Water and Nature

Lac du Lauzet-Ubaye is a natural lake. There is a constructed beach there for swimming. Fishing at Lac du Lauzet-Ubaye is free and possible without a fishing licence.

The Cascades de Costeplane are located in the Ravin de la Blache and are considered a remarkable and highly frequented canyoning spot.

Activities and Trails

The circular trail to the Dolmen du Villard from the cemetery of Ubaye is approximately 8 km long, including the outward and return journey, has around 400 m of positive elevation gain and takes approximately 3 hours.

The white-water sports centre of Anaconda Rafting is located in the village of Le Lauzet-Ubaye at the entrance to the Ubaye Valley. Anaconda Rafting's hydrospeed programme includes an introduction to swimming techniques and a descent in the water.

The free Ubaye shuttle line L2 connects Barcelonnette, Le Lauzet, Ubaye Plage and Montclar. It also serves the villages of Les Thuiles and Méolans-Revel.
