The cross-country skiing area offers cross-country skiing through protected landscapes, including the Parc national du Mercantour. In winter, the Vallon du Lauzanier can only be reached on cross-country skis via the prepared and marked trails of the Larche cross-country skiing area, which pass through the core zone of the Parc national du Mercantour.
Nature
The marked trail through the Vallon du Lauzanier leads to the mountain lake Lac du Lauzanier, located at an altitude of 2,284 metres. The Vallon du Lauzanier is a glacial valley with protected alpine landscapes and meadows rich in flowers. Marmots are easy to observe along the trail.
In the wider surroundings of Larche, in Val d'Oronaye, a hiking trail leads to the turquoise lakes Lac de l'Oronaye and Lac de Roburent. The Col de Roburent marks the border with Italy there.
Culture
The SES Costa de Beauregard memorial trail leads from the village of Larche through five fortifications in the alpine pastures above the village.
In the surroundings of Larche lies Fort de Saint-Ours haut, part of the Alpine Maginot Line, which defended access to the Col de Larche. From May to September, it can be visited regularly by guided tour only. The two-hour tour includes one hour in underground galleries with a temperature of approximately 10 to 12°C.
Fort de Roche-la-Croix is also located in the surroundings of Larche. The fortification of the Alpine Maginot Line was excavated into the rock at an altitude of 1,900 metres and was historically intended to prevent enemy troops from accessing the area via the Col de Larche.
The church of Notre-Dame du Mont-Carmel stands in Val d'Oronaye. It was built in 1959 and has a distinctive square bell tower.
Cycling
The route to Pont Rouge reaches its endpoint after 5 kilometres. A path then leads back to the village of Larche, connecting with the road to the Col de Larche.
The marked Transubayenne route connects the Col de Larche or the Col de Vars with Lac de Serre-Ponçon. It is divided into eleven sections with varying levels of difficulty.
