History

The Tour de l’Horloge was built in the 11th century on the foundations of an older Romanesque church and rebuilt in the 16th century. The square structure has round turrets at the corners and is classified as a historic monument. In summer, the tower can be visited as part of guided tours.

The Église Saint-Étienne is open to the public all year round. It was rebuilt in 1872 on the foundations of an earlier Romanesque church and houses a fresco depicting the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven in its apse.

Saint Jean de Matha was born in Faucon-de-Barcelonnette in 1160. A statue of the saint stands in the square near the town hall. The Couvent des Trinitaires was founded in the 17th century by the successors of Saint Jean de Matha. Set in a two-hectare garden, it offers a place for spiritual reflection.

The GR®69 La Routo passes through Faucon-de-Barcelonnette and follows in the footsteps of shepherds and their flocks. Numerous hiking trails begin directly in the village and lead, among other places, to Bouzoulières, Bonnet Vert and Soleil-Bœuf. Along the way, they cross larch forests, high-altitude pastures, orchards and scenic mountain ridges.

A yellow-marked hiking trail starting in Faucon-de-Barcelonnette is 2.7 kilometres long.
