Clamensane: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Clamensane is situated on a rocky outcrop; the Sasse flows below, while Mount Saint-Amand rises above it. An easy circular tour to the Aqueduc des Sagnières is 6.2 kilometres long, takes three hours and includes 241 metres of ascent and 234 metres of descent.
Landscape
The Aqueduc des Sagnières is an old, two-arched aqueduct made of tuff in the small Sagnières valley. In the Vallon du Vermeil, there are hikes that pass by or cross the Aqueduc des Sagnières. In the area around Clamensane, you can look out for chamois with binoculars.
Hiking
The signposted circular hike “La Chapelle Saint-Amand (No. 5)” begins in Clamensane and leads to the Chapelle Saint-Amand. The route is 12.76 kilometres long, includes 773 metres of ascent, takes six hours and is classified as quite difficult. Along its higher section, it offers views over the middle Sasse Valley and the narrowing of the gorge at Bayons.

Another starting point for challenging elevation gains is the “Montée de Saint Amand” trail. It begins in Clamensane and follows a technically demanding, strenuous ascent to a high mountain pass.
Culture
The Chapelle Saint-Amand is associated with a long pilgrimage tradition: the pilgrimage has been documented since 1600 and continued until 1920. The restoration and securing of the chapel commissioned by the municipality of Clamensane began in July 1999; the restored chapel was blessed in October 2000.
The Chapelle Saint-Amand is also associated with the legend of a statue. A shepherd took it to another place, but it repeatedly returned to its original location.
The “Rocher-qui-Parle”, which towers over the village, has a QR code that can be used to listen to a fairy tale on a smartphone.
Events
The Marché de Clamensane takes place as a seasonal market from 7 July to 25 August 2026. On Friday, 28 August, Clamensane will be a stop on the “Les Vendredis des Hautes Terres” hiking festival. The festival moves from village to village each week and offers eight performances in the area.
Getting There
The hike to the Chapelle Saint-Amand can be reached from Sisteron via the D951 and then the D1 to Clamensane; there is a car park at the entrance to Clamensane.
