Culture and History
In the hamlet of Lange, the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Chapel on the northern slope of the Montagne de Lure retains its distinctive character. It has a nave with a flattened barrel vault and an adjoining apse with a calotte vault. The chapel probably dates from the 17th century or a later period.
The parish church of Saint-Mary, which is partly Romanesque, stands on a small rocky plateau. The sites of Jansiac and Saint-Michel are believed to have been inhabited as far back as antiquity and to have remained settled until the end of the Middle Ages.
Hiking
The “Sommet du Contras” hiking route begins and ends in the hamlet of Lange in Châteauneuf-Miravail. It runs along the northern side of the Montagne de Lure and past the distinctive summit of Contras.
The circular hike on Montagne Saint-Michel between Montagne de Lure and Montagne de Mare offers impressive views across the valley. Its route alternates between tracks and hiking trails from Pas de Parandier to Col de Saint-Michel.
