Banon: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The old village of Banon preserves its character as a high-altitude village on a high promontory and is protected behind its fortification walls. The main pedestrian access leads through a gate with machicolations dating from the 14th century. Banon’s former feudal gate was listed by decree of 26 October 1927.

Culture

Since 2005, the deconsecrated Église-Haute has hosted art exhibitions, theatre performances and concerts from April to October. Every year, more than 20,000 visitors enjoy its unique acoustics as part of the cultural programme.

The Notre-Dame-des-Anges chapel dates back to at least the 13th century and can be reached on foot via a good path. The Le Bleuet cultural centre organises more than 60 cultural events per year. At the Le Bleuet bookshop, 120,000 books can be discovered across four floors.

Culinary delights and festivals

The Fête du Fromage takes place in Banon every year on the third Sunday in May and has been held there since 1993. The Fromagerie de Banon has been in existence since 1958 and produces the “Banon” cheese with protected designation of origin, as well as a wide selection of fresh and matured goat cheeses. The Chocolaterie de Banon offers a free, guided tasting all year round.

Activities

The Rando VTT du Fromage offers routes for families, beginners, experienced riders and elite mountain bikers. It takes place on the last Sunday in September.

Geographical location

Banon can be reached from Forcalquier via the D950 and from Manosque via the D5 and D105.
