Lac d’Allos is a glacial lake at an altitude of 2,228 metres in the heart of Mercantour National Park and the largest natural high-altitude lake in Europe.

Roche Grande, a mountain, is located in the immediate vicinity of Allos. Roche Cline, a peak, is also located in the immediate vicinity of Allos. Le Cheval de Bois Grand, a mountain, and Crête de Valdemars, a mountain, are also located in the immediate vicinity of Allos.

Culture

The village of Allos was formerly fortified. In the 16th century, Allos was referred to as the “land of the thirty-two chapels.”

Notre-Dame de Valvert was built in the Alpine Romanesque style in the first third of the 13th century and has been classified as a historic monument since 1846.

Fort de Savoie is located near Allos. Fort de Dormillouse and Fort de Tournoux are located in the wider regional surroundings of Allos.

A signposted discovery trail leads through the historic town centres and hamlets of Val d’Allos, as well as through alleyways and agricultural buildings.
