The Sainte-Radegonde Church in Saix houses the painting “Apparition du Christ à sainte Radegonde”. Renting a holiday apartment in Saix can be part of your personal travel plans.
Culture
The Sentier des Fontaines begins at the Place de la Mairie in Saix and in front of the Sainte-Radegonde Church, a fortified Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. The church is a remnant of a former priory dependent on Sainte-Croix de Poitiers.
Next to the church car park, a tourist information board provides information about history, architecture, fauna and flora, as well as the routes of the two hiking trails in the municipality. Saix also has three private castles or fortifications, three chapels, two churches and numerous troglodytic structures.
History
Historically, Saix was an area belonging to Fontevraud Abbey. Polished stone axes from Saix in the Musée Sainte Croix de Poitiers, together with other finds, indicate settlement since the Neolithic period. Villa Suedas is mentioned in the 6th century as the residence of Saint Radegund.
Trails and Landscape
The Sentier des Fontaines offers views of castles or wineries, as well as panoramas over northern Poitou. At the exit from Saix, the Sentier des Grands Chênes gradually leads into a wooded landscape. The Angevin hamlet of Saix is characterised by vineyards and tuffeau stone.
Cycle Route
“Tèrra Aventura: Prudence, ça pousse!” is an 11 km cycling route through the two municipalities of Saix and Roiffé. The “Liaison Vignoble de Saix” is designated as a vineyard connection within the Route du vignoble.
