Along the Auxance, Migné-Auxances encompasses a variety of natural environments across 2,900 hectares: a valley, wet meadows, agricultural land and limestone grasslands. The built-up area of Migné lies in a loop of the Auxance.

The Sentier des Méandres de l’Auxance runs along the Auxance River and includes an educational trail through the wetlands.

Culture and History

The Église Sainte-Croix is mentioned as early as 989. The present-day Église Sainte-Croix was rebuilt following the apparition of a cross, which according to tradition took place on 17 December 1826. Marie Baranger created the frescoes in the choir in 1933 and those in the arms of the transept in 1956.

The Château d’Auxances is a fortified castle and now serves as a Carmelite convent. Its square keep preserves evidence of medieval construction phases. The complex lies on the valley floor, in a loop of the Auxance and slightly outside the centre of Migné.

Stone quarrying in Migné-Auxances dates back to Roman times and was later carried out underground, including at Les Lourdines. Stone from Les Lourdines was used in the construction of the Gare d’Orsay in Paris.

The Domaine de Malaguet is a former fief first mentioned in 1328. It includes an old chapel that may date from the 17th century. The Manoir de Salvert is now a convent of the Filles de la Sainte-Vierge.

Since 1977, the Musée Manuel has displayed the collector’s finds in an exhibition space measuring 2,000 m². It features historic cars, toys, velocipedes, tractors, military equipment, gramophones, dolls and all kinds of curiosities. The collection includes, among other things, a 1912 Renault AX, a 1924 fire engine, a Sikorsky helicopter and a Ford Model T.
