The Troussaye site was already occupied by a Roman villa in the 3rd century. The Château d'Aigne was built in 1442 by Jean II de Vivonne on the site of a Roman villa.

Nature
The Sentier des Sources is a 9.5 km hiking trail with a stated duration of two hours and runs through Iteuil. Numerous springs flow through the area; many washhouses were built along their banks.
The Sentier Prés des Champs is a 7 km hiking trail with a stated duration of one hour and 30 minutes. The Sentier d'Aigne offers views of the Château d'Aigne, which dominates the valley from its wooded surroundings.
A revered oak tree stands on the Sentier des Genèbres in the forests of Chêne-Brault.
Culture and history
At the entrance to the Château d'Aigne is a 17th-century portal that was listed as a historic monument by decree of 12 December 1975.
The Château de Bernay is listed as a protected historic monument; the listing covers the entire building, as well as the remains of the chapel to the south and the outbuildings from the 15th and 18th centuries. The protection order is dated 3 July 1992.
The present-day Château de la Troussaye was built on the site of a former dairy farm. M. Henri de Montjou added the left wing in 1891; the château has been fully restored since 2012.
