The town centre of Palluaud is grouped around the 12th-century Church of Saint-Cybard. The church received a spire and two side chapels in 1880. Inside is an altar and tabernacle ensemble with wings and an exhibition canopy, which was registered as a protected object on 8 March 2002.
Culture
The Négremus Mill, also known as Négremur, is part of the history of the town. In 1516, it was still a cloth mill and was subsequently converted into the first documented paper mill in the Charente. Paper production continued at the mill for several centuries. An envelope bearing its watermark, featuring the motif of a jester’s head beneath a crown, is kept in the archives of Amsterdam.
The Lizonne and its mills acquired European significance in the 17th century through connections with Flemish merchants. The Couvige de Palluaud, a gathering of lace-makers, takes place every two years in September, on one day as part of the Heritage Days.
Yoga
Those considering Palluaud as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment. La Traversante in Palluaud has built a regular and welcoming community of yoga students. Two weekly Vinyasa Flow yoga classes are currently offered there: “Midweek Motivation” on Wednesday evenings and “Saturday Smoothie” on Saturday mornings. At the Bistrot de Palluaud, Loraine and her head chef Arthur welcome guests on the terrace or indoors. French dishes made with high-quality local produce are served.
