The Motte à Peljeau, also known as Poljeau, is either a tumulus or a feudal motte, approximately seven metres high and about ten metres wide at the base. It rises on the edge of what was probably a Roman camp that is relatively well preserved, and later served as the foundation for the Peljeau mill.
History and Culture
An archaeological investigation in La Tenaie in Les Métairies uncovered remains dating from the period beginning in the early Middle Ages. The cultural walking route Au fil de la Tenaie uses the Motte à Peljeau in Les Métairies as a meeting point at 9:15 a.m.; a car park is available there for the morning.
Nature and Local Character
The type 1 ZNIEFF Plaine de Guitres covers 3.4 % of the municipal area of Les Métairies. The Tenaie is a tributary of the Charente and rises within the municipality of Les Métairies.
The COG24 timetable lists a Les Métairies–Brassac stop at the junction of the VC as a bus stop.

The Frairie – Festival de la Tenaie was scheduled to take place from 13 to 15 June 2025 at the Salle des fêtes-Bourg in Les Métairies. In 2025, the Frairie took place for the fourth time.

The Château de Jarnac is a historic site in the immediate surroundings of Les Métairies. The surrounding area also includes the Château Royal de Cognac as a château and the Parc François-Ier as a park. Further afield in the region are the Abbaye de la Frenade as a ruin site and the Château de Balzac as a château.
