Villiers-Couture: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Church of Saint-Hilaire in Villiers-Couture is a Romanesque building constructed in the 12th century. In November 1969, it was added to the supplementary list of historic monuments.

Culture

The four altar candlesticks in the Church of Saint-Hilaire are listed as protected historic objects; they were listed on 10 July 1985. On the right-hand side of the façade is a Romanesque portal with rose and floral decoration.

Among the other architectural features is the house with sculpted decorations, which was built in 1937. Its roof bears a ridge ornament, and the building has a particularly carefully designed gateway with pillars.

The shelter holes were dug by residents of Villiers-Couture during the Second World War. The underground refuge probably dates back to the Middle Ages; however, its exact dating is difficult.

Landscape

The municipal area of Villiers-Couture is gently hilly. The Naudin, a tributary of the Aume, runs through the municipality.

Walking routes

The 3.8-kilometre heritage trail begins at the town hall car park in Villiers-Couture and combines architectural and historical heritage. In addition, Section 7 of the GR36®, approximately 20 kilometres long, runs from Villiers-sur-Chizé to Villiers-Couture.

Along the road from Beauvais-sur-Matha to Chef-Boutonne, the shelter holes should be found at intervals of approximately 50 metres.
