Vert-Bois: Holiday Apartments and Houses
On the southwest coast of Île d’Oléron lies Plage de Vert-Bois, a sandy beach in Dolus-d’Oléron known for its surf spots. The Oléron Surf Club operates there year-round and offers surfing courses as well as surfing courses in the form of training programs. Its offerings also include surfing lessons for beginners and for improving skills.
Coast and Nature
The Sentier de la Côte Sauvage runs along the coast past Plage de Vert-Bois and leads through dunes and pine forests. Along the way, it offers maritime panoramas. The dunes at Plage de Vertbois are home to marram grass, lichens, sea holly, immortelles, carnations, and euphorbia plants.
The Forêt domaniale de Saint-Trojan in the vicinity of Vert-Bois is mainly covered with maritime pines and holm oaks and is designated as a Natura 2000 site. The Forêt de Saint-Trojan-les-Bains also offers a fitness trail near Vert-Bois.
Active Pursuits
The Parcours sportif Vertbois - l'Ecuissière is a 2.2-kilometre fitness trail in the state forest near the sea. It features 14 platforms equipped with training apparatus, including parallel bars, a slalom, obstacles, a balance beam, and a horizontal ladder. The course is open daily from 1 January to 31 December.
The 12.9-kilometre cycle route “L'océan à Vertbois par la forêt” leads from Dolus-d’Oléron via Le Riveau to Plage de Vertbois and returns to Dolus-d’Oléron on cycle paths through the forest.
Practical Details
The Vertbois car park offers 160 parking spaces, five of them for people with reduced mobility, as well as dry toilets and bicycle parking. The Vertbois picnic area has wooden tables installed by the ONF, some of which are suitable for people with reduced mobility; they are located on both sides of the road to the beach.
