The Moulin de la Montagne was built in 1795. As a restored mill, it is the last of two mills on the Montagne, the hill on which Semussac is situated.

The current bell tower porch of the Church of Saint-Étienne was built in the 19th century. The garden of Semussac Town Hall is located at the foot of this bell tower porch, on the grounds of a former priory. There is a shady bench near a fountain, inviting visitors to relax in peace.

History

Archaeological finds such as tools and tumuli indicate prehistoric settlement at the site of Semussac. Gallo-Roman remains suggest that a Roman road ran through the municipality of Semussac.

The burial site of Jean Jarousseau, regarded as an important figure in Protestantism in the Saintonge, is located in the hamlet of Chenaumoine. He died in Chenaumoine in 1819 at the age of 90 and was buried near his home according to Reformed tradition.

Nature

Mountain bike route no. 10, of moderate difficulty, starts at the Espace loisirs in Semussac and is 31.0 km long. It follows unpaved paths through the Saintonge countryside and offers views of the Gironde estuary and the freshwater marshes of Talmont-sur-Gironde. The route can be used in autumn, summer, winter and spring.
