Port-D'envaux: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

At the former Chabossières quarry in Port-d'Envaux, stone is worked directly at the quarry walls. Since 2001, La Galaxie des Pierres Levées, also known as Les Lapidiales, has used this site for its work. Les Lapidiales is open all year round and freely accessible to everyone; access and admission are free. As an artists' residence, it hosts sculptors from all over the world who create their works directly on the quarry walls of Chabossières.

Culture and history

The Château de Panloy is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. The estate includes a dovecote dating from 1620, with 3,000 round terracotta nesting chambers. The Château de Panloy was built on the banks of the Charente during the reign of Louis XV and offers one-hour guided tours.

The Chaussée de Saint-James was built on an old Roman road and comprises 22 arches, including three original vaulted arches. The Chapelle de Saint-James was rebuilt after the Wars of Religion on the ruins of a former priory that served as a hospital in the 13th century.

Nature

The Vallon du Bel Air is a wetland of around 20 hectares on the border between Port-d'Envaux and Crazannes and has an educational trail. The 7-hectare Panloy nature park also has a nature trail where visitors can discover the local flora and fauna.

Pré Valade is a 2.5-hectare, publicly accessible leisure area with footpaths. It also has a mixed fishing area that is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
