Loiré-sur-Nie is crossed by the La Nie and also preserves traces of a rich milling history: in the 19th century, the village had at least seven mills.
Culture and History
The Notre-Dame de la Nativité church in Loiré-sur-Nie was rebuilt between 1865 and 1876. Its façade features a round-arched portal. Sculptures with animal heads can be seen on both sides of the iron cross on the bell tower.
East of Loiré-sur-Nie, one of the village’s two former watermills has been converted into a residential building. This former watermill has retained its millrace, which runs beneath the building. One of the former mills of Loiré-sur-Nie has been restored. The tallest of the historic mills reached a height of 109 metres.
