Culture and History
The restored Maison-phare de Trousse-Chemise was reopened to the public in June 2022. Today, it houses exhibitions on climate, the ocean and coastal protection. Its beacon was first lit in 1875.
The Chapelle de la Redoute was faithfully rebuilt 45 years later; the stone statue of the Virgin Mary was returned to its original place. The church began in the 12th century as a simple chapel and was expanded into an independent church in the early 18th century.
The redoubt was built in 1674 according to plans by Vauban to protect the Rochefort arsenal and prevent a possible landing at the Bûcheron sandbank.
Coast and Sea
The Petit Bec surf spot is a beach break where the swell is received particularly well and the waves break hollow. The small Lizay surf spot is reserved for experienced surfers; there, the waves break over a reef on both the right and left.
At low tide, a walk on the Banc du Bûcheron at Plage de Trousse Chemise is pleasant. Sailing is also possible as an activity at Plage de Trousse Chemise.
Les Huîtres de Trousse Chemise offers on-site oyster tastings from May to September.
