The Musée du Nouveau Monde explores the relations between France, particularly La Rochelle, and the Americas since the 16th century. On display are paintings, drawings, engravings, old maps, decorative arts objects and photographs relating to Brazil, Canada and Louisiana.
The Muséum d’Histoire naturelle de La Rochelle bears the designation “Musée de France”. It offers perspectives on the coast and marshland in the past and present, while also following in the footsteps of natural history explorers.

Parc des Minimes is a 3.5-hectare park by the sea that connects the built-up area with the ocean. The Chef de Baie area is classified as an Espaces naturels sensibles (ENS) and encompasses around 30 hectares of green coastal open space with dry landscapes and natural habitats.

At the Tours de La Rochelle, the Tour de la Chaîne and the Tour de la Lanterne are currently accessible and open for free exploration; the Tour Saint-Nicolas is closed until further notice. The towers offer expansive views of the ocean and the city.
The Vieux Port in La Rochelle serves as a place for walks, relaxing and activities, as well as a thoroughfare.
Local life
The market hall of the Marché du centre ville in La Rochelle dates from 1834, and the market is open every morning. On Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Marché du centre ville extends into the surrounding streets and offers food as well as goods from other sectors.
Aquarium La Rochelle offers a visit lasting approximately 1.5 hours, during which visitors can discover the sea and its inhabitants, including jellyfish and sharks.
