The Natura 2000 site FR 5402009 “Haute Vallée de la Seugne en amont de Pons et affluents” concerns Clam and was designated as a Special Area of Conservation on May 27, 2005. Two habitat types of Community interest occur in the Natura 2000 site in Clam: riparian forests with black alder and ash, and mixed oak, elm, and ash forests along large rivers. Both are designated with Natura code 91E0; the riparian forest is classified as a priority habitat.

The municipal area of Clam is characterized by the Trèfle Valley, agricultural use, and forested areas developed to the west. The Natura 2000 protected area underscores the ecological importance of the Trèfle Valley. In Clam, the Trèfle is classified as a category-two fishery; its fish population is dominated by cyprinids and predatory fish. An otter was reported on the Trèfle at the RD 142 bridge on the municipal boundary of Clam. Clam’s western forest zone mainly contains deciduous forests with oak and chestnut trees.

Clam has footpaths and circular hiking trails listed in the departmental plan for hiking and walking routes (PDIPR). Mountain biking circuits in Haute-Saintonge pass through the municipal area of Clam.

The hike “De Clam au Château du Gibeau” is 11.05 km long and passes through cultivated areas as well as areas with vineyards and forests. It starts and ends in Clam.
