The church of Saint-Sulpice stands on an artificially constructed mound of earth, which also housed the first cemetery. Today, the Château de Crécy and the church together form defining elements of Saint-Sulpice’s architectural heritage. The Château de Crécy’s current design dates from the 18th century; beneath the three central bays, its cellars have preserved six remarkable stone vaults.

The church itself also reveals a complex architectural history. Its massive entrance area is Romanesque and dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. The choir is Gothic and bears the year 1550. The church also includes a Saint Nicholas chapel and a bell tower, representing the Flamboyant Gothic and Late Gothic styles respectively.

Nature

The pastures known as “pâtures” are located at La Grosse Saulx. As in a Norman bocage landscape, they are surrounded by hedges. Saint-Sulpice also has numerous paths for walks.

A longer route is the “Découverte des hameaux” hiking trail (Route 507). The 12.8 km walking trail passes through the commune of Saint-Sulpice and its hamlets. The walking time is 3 hours and 15 minutes, and the cumulative elevation gain is 102 metres.

Geographical location

Saint-Sulpice railway station is located in the central hamlet of La Vallée.
