Ressons-Sur-Matz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Around 1430, the fortifications of Ressons-sur-Matz comprised four gates – the Porte de Montdidier, the Porte de Compiègne, the Porte de Bayencourt and the Porte de Roye – as well as a keep.

The Matz River runs through the municipality of Ressons-sur-Matz and promotes the presence of marshes and peat bogs.

History

The Ferme de Bayencourt has retained its original character and is built of dressed stone and brick. It dates from the 16th century; its foundations date back to the time of the Knights Templar.

The Chapelle de l’Épine is dedicated to Notre-Dame and was inaugurated in 1834. It replaced two earlier buildings. The first chapel on this site was built in the 17th century following a vow made by a soldier who wished for a chapel to be built if he survived the wars.

The Église Saint-Nicolas et Saint-Louis was built in the 12th century within the fortifications of Ressons-sur-Matz. It was remodelled in 1554, giving it its present appearance. Its features include Art Deco stained-glass windows by Paul Louzier from 1924, depicting Joan of Arc fighting alongside the Poilus.

During the First World War, Ressons-sur-Matz was home to Hôpital d’Evacuation 36/2 from 1916, in the area around the railway station.

Culture

The historic trail through the municipality of Ressons-sur-Matz invites visitors to discover the history of the municipality’s buildings and streets. The sculpture “je t’ai cherché” is a work by Maxime REAL DEL SARTE.

Trails and Landscape

The Mont Bellot loop passes through Ressons-sur-Matz and is approximately 4 km long. The Mont-Bellot route is signposted as a 1-hour-30-minute hiking trail or a 30-minute mountain-biking route.

The Les bocages du pays des Sources route follows the Matz through wooded landscapes and small villages.
