History
Since the 3rd or 4th century, a Roman road from Milan to Boulogne-sur-Mer via Soissons, Noyon and Amiens crossed the Oise at the site of today’s village of Pontoise-lès-Noyon. The historic ferry connection was replaced here by a suspension bridge in 1833.
The wayside cross in Pontoise-lès-Noyon was purchased and erected in 1849. It depicts Christ on the cross; its height is recorded as 5.01 metres.

Nature
The ZNIEFF “Prairies inondables de l'Oise de Brissy-Hamégicourt à Thourotte” comprises meadows, woodland, hedgerows and fields subject to varying degrees of flooding. The landscape is crossed by the Oise, the lower Serre and the lower Ailette. Wet hollows, ponds and oxbow lakes provide breeding grounds for numerous fish, amphibians, insects and birds.
Pontoise-lès-Noyon is also covered by the “Circuit du noyonnais” bridleway, which was included in the departmental plan for equestrian tourism adopted on 8 November 1990.
Geographical setting
In the vicinity of Pontoise-lès-Noyon are the Abbaye antique de Brétigny monastery and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Noyon church. The surrounding area also contains the historic sites of Abbaye Notre-Dame d'Ourscamp and Abbaye de Saint-Paul-aux-Bois, as well as Mont des Singes hill.
The wider regional area includes the hills Mont Ganelon, Mont Saint-Marc and Mont du Tremble.
