Culture
The Notre-Dame de Noyon Cathedral is a masterpiece of Early Gothic architecture and is considered the first cathedral built in northern France. Much of Noyon’s cathedral quarter has been preserved and provides an exceptional testimony to the religious life of the bishop and the cathedral canons.
The Théâtre du Chevalet is a multidisciplinary venue in the heart of Noyon. Its programme includes theatre, dance, circus, puppetry, storytelling and music.
Those wishing to stay in Noyon and rent a holiday apartment can include this in their travel plans.
History
The Musée du Noyonnais is located in the former bishop’s palace and illustrates the city’s origins and development from the Gallo-Roman period to the present day. The room known as the “Calvin Room” houses original works and original prints by Calvin, as well as a collection of “Protestant” translations of the Holy Scriptures.
The Musée Jean Calvin was built between 1927 and 1930 at the presumed site of Jean Calvin’s birthplace. It is dedicated to the history of the spread of the Reformation in the French language, the personality of the reformer, and the influence of his work in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Cycling
The 55-kilometre “Au pays des fruits rouges” cycling route starts at Noyon Cathedral and runs along the Canal du Nord and through the Divette Valley.
Cuisine
On the first Sunday in July, the “Marché aux fruits rouges” market takes place in Noyon, in the Oise département, bringing together at least 150 regional producers. At the market, visitors can enjoy various red fruits, as well as jams, syrups, fruit pastes, coulis and sorbets made from them.
To the overarching travel overview: Oise.
